Spring is on his way in Holland, but on the other side of the world they go towards the winter. So more reason to put this artist in the sunshine! This week we look at the work from Lauren Swan from Sidney - Australia. Instagram remains a fascinating medium, there are so many cool and beautifull photographs of artists. I really like this artist, especially because the combination of art, the use of the colors and putting it on an instrument makes it so special! I also like the feeling you get while browsing through her instagram account, it gives you the hippie vibes back! In fashion you also see more and more colorfull clothing. That's nice, colors make you happy! First let's take a look at some nice pictures of 'Salty_Hippie'. After the interview you will see a beautifull video where she's designing a guitar! What's your name and where do you live? My name is Lauren Swan and I live in Clovelly, Sydney in Australia. You have a cool name, what does Salty Hippie means?. Thank you. I didn’t really know it would become my name in the art field, but I love that it does! I was raised by a beautiful down to earth mum with old school hippie ideals. She believed in me as an artist and always thought of me as a hippie, even since before I knew what that was. I grew up near the ocean and it’s honestly my favourite place. All you need is sea, salt and sun to heal the soul. I love your kind of art. Did you learn that yourself or did you study? I studied a little bit. I attempted to get a diploma in fine arts but I actually failed painting! So I never got my diploma. I always hated school and structure and It wasn’t until I developed my own style that I became confident in art and wanted to be a professional artist. I see pictures of guitar decorations, paintings and buddha creations. Can you tell me how you get to this original idea of creating and designing guitars? It came about by accident. I had this old beat up guitar lying around and a few posca pens, I think I only had four colours. So I started painting lots of little colourful drawings all over it. I don’t know it just struck me that this beautiful instrument is my canvas and I love it. I just kept buying guitars and ukuleles and trying to develop my style. What do you do for a living, is this your full time job? I’m currently just living off my art and hopefully I can keep that going! It would be my dream come true. If people have a guitar at home and they want a cool design on it, is that possible? Absolutely it’s possible. I love doing commissions. If people want to send me there guitar or ukulele I’m happy to paint a design they want on it. What are your dreams? I want to travel a lot. I don’t think I’ve travelled enough so I really want to prioritise travelling. I want to be a full time artist and want painting to be my 9-5 job. I want to have a lot of adventures. Where do you see yourself in 5/10 years from now? Maybe living in a little shack on a beach with my partner. I paint and we travel a lot. Hopefully I’ve made a name for myself in the art world. Also at one point I want to have an animal sanctuary and rescue animals. You can follow Lauren Swan on instagram, just click on the link below. This was the interview. I always find it very interesting to find out what drives a person and what's the story behind the artist. This story inspires me too, I also want to travel again. There is so much beauty to see in the world. Who knows, this inspires you to be creative.
Update The page 'Talent Thursday' on the website has been updated. Work of the artists that appear in the blogs are now also on this page, with a short intro text and a button-link to the relevant blog. I am still looking for ways to divide the blogs into topics on this site. I think I will also separate the webshop from the website. I want to separate the personal blogs and other content from the sales side, which might make it more professional. I will combine the webshop with the Talent Thursday artist. That fits well with the name: 'Thrift & Artshop Puddifoots'. !

Welcome to a new Talent Thursday blog! I'm trying to write this one in English, because there are also some foreign people who joined our Facebookgroup and are fan of the artist Aura Da Prophet. It's also better for reaching a larger audience. Excuse me for the language errors. A$AP Rocky First off al, i enjoy music a lot! Especially hiphop, rap, R&B and some house music if i'm in the right mood. I love true hiphop with a message, kind off storytelling. But if i'm in the club or at a party i also like the clubbangers, with easy and catchy hooks. I love music that inspires me through good lyrics, almost poetry rap. My biggest inspiration at this moment is ASAP Rocky i think. ASAP rocky is an artist from Harlem in New York. In 2011 he released his first tracks, shortly after that he signed a 3 million dollar contract at a big record label! A few years after that he became a fashion icon to, he's so booming. He created a whole movement WorldWide, ASAPMob. That's amazing! I want to buy a new camera asap, because we need to make aftermovies from festivals. The first one will be WOO HAH 2018, with ASAP Rocky & J.Cole on stage! But talking about a movement from another level is when i get to Aura Da Prophet. He gives me inspiration to, on spiritual base and conscious living. It's nice to hear some rap & hiphop with a positive and inspiring message, instead of only gangster 'pief paf poef' rap. I still like that kind of rap to, but i'm getting older aswell. If i really like music or an artist, i want to know more about it. So that's why i'm writing this blog, because i like to know more about a person. If i can make you happy with it, that's extra fun. ---------------------------------------------- Who's is Aura Da Prophet and where does he live? I’m from Cincinnati, Ohio and I’m 23 years old. I started making music at the age of 10 playing guitar and singing and then started making hip hop in 2014. The name Aura came from a lot of people telling me I was always a bright kid with a positive outlook on life. Da Prophet came from the purpose in my music. Which is to teach people and help others find there purpose. Who is your inspiration? Can you tell me something about your style of rappin? Kid Cudi is my biggest inspiration specially coming from Ohio. He has helped me thru dark times and inspires me to help other people by telling my story through my battles and depression. And The Underachievers as well definitely influenced me to take my art to another level and truly spreading a powerful message. And uniting people thru music. The first time i saw your music was last year, 2017, i came by the track Metamorphosis. It's a great song, with nice visuals to. Can you tell me someting about this track and song? Metamorphosis is such a special track to me not only because it's my biggest song but because the meaning to the song. I was going through a very rough time when I wrote that song I was homeless and my parents kicked me out of the house I was sleeping in my car. I was battling with addiction and major depression. So I took it all out on the track because I came to terms with the fact that I to need change so when I sent ak the beat he asked what we was gonna make the song about and I told him “change” and from that point on my whole life changed. And that song took off. I guess u could say I manifested a spirit bomb when I dropped that song. I had love coming from so many directions from the fans it help me push through the darkness. I'm a subscriber of your channel. It's named Conscious Living Entertainment. What does that name mean? It's kinda spiritual too, what's the message in your music about? When I started making the foundation to my movement I knew that in order to create a fan base I had to create a lifestyle to attach my music to. To make my fans want to be a part of the movement and feel like they were apart of it. So I just looked at what I was doing and the music I was making and simply named it “Conscious Living Entertainment “ because we are entertainers trying to get people to start consciously living. You just release a new track named Heart. The visuals are amazing! I see the artist AK the savior. Is that artist on your label too? No. Ak is a mentor and a friend. The only artist in CLE are Dynasty & Noslen and me. Do you know any Dutch rappers? No. What are you dreams? To be truly happy and see my family and friends the same. and to help as many people as I can with my story and knowledge. While I have a blessing to be on this earth with all of you. Where do you see you in 5/10 years from now? Hopefully, enjoying life with the people I love. Creating music that will live on throughout my story forever. I’m just really on a pursuit to happiness. ------------------------------------------------- In Holland we say, 'moraal van het verhaal' and I don't know what it is in English. But the moral of the story: never give up! From having nothing to making music with 800.000+ views on YouTube is a big accomplishment. Always follow your dreams. I hope you guys (girls too) enjoyed this story. When i stay fit and motivated i will post this Talent Thursday item every week! Down below is a short preview of the upcoming blogs: - 8th March - Graffity Artist (Dutch) - 15th March - Artist & Blogger about Mental Health & Selfcare (USA) - 22th March - Artist, Painter, Designer (Australia) - 31th March - FULL MOON EDITION Happy New Year everybody! "I draw since childhood, since I can hold a pencil in my hand I think. To draw is more than a passion, it's a vital need and neccesary. When I draw, I feel so alive, it's the best way to express myself. My drawings are importent to me, because each drawing represents what i feel. Therefore, I don't choose what I draw, that's my heart who decides. In fact, my drawings are like my personal diary. I often use watercolours because it's more spontaneous and unpredictable! That is what I love! But I use coloured pencils, markers and somtimes bic too ! Ihave another passion, i love to dance. Actually, I like a lot everything about art. At the moment, I study to become a kindergarten teacher"

Keep going on Julie! My name is Julie Morin, I am a French artist born in Paris and now living in Rotterdam for 5 years. I’ve always been creative since a child, I had painting classes when I was 4 years old, and later in high school I was only interested in art classes. However I pursued a Business Career since arts have always been seen as a difficult career to pursue, in general. I went to a Business school and worked in Marketing for several years, but I was missing the creative part in it. Lyme disease I started painting 2 years ago when I got sick with Lyme disease. My body collapsed and I needed a wheelchair to move. I had to spend my days in bed, so I picked up a brush and started painting. Since then it truly became a passion, a call, and it gave an outlet to my explosive creativity. It tremendously helped me to recover, little by little, everyday. Painting has offered me an escape from my life, and it saved me. That is why I paint, and how I want to touch people: I want to take them away from their busy life and hectic schedule, take their hand and make they dream. Invite them into the world of my imaginary. It’s all about creating magic, this sweet moment or gazing and wonder that I see in people’s eyes, that make me love what I’m doing. Now I am focusing 100% on recovering from Lyme disease and after that I hope to become a full time artist. Let’s see what the future holds Ik hoop dat jullie dit mooi vonden! Have a nice day! Never, ever give up! |
